CCB General Meeting

CCB held its biannual general meeting in Lviv, Ukraine on 20th-22nd of May 2016. A work plan for coming years was agreed upon and a new CCB board was elected. CCB also got two new members accepted at the general meeting, one from Latvia and one from Belarus. 

CCB also held the annual conference focusing on river basin management and importance of cross border cooperation upstream. It is clear that without a strong cooperation, the objective of good environmental status in rivers and sea will be hard if not impossible to reach. The message from the conference was that it is possible and that NGOs have a big role to play in pushing for cross-border cooperation with upstream countries like Ukraine and Belarus. Global Plastics Treaty negotiations in Ottawa - INC4

On April, 21 the 4 th session of Intergovernmental Negotiations Committee to develop a global plastics treaty has started in Ottawa, Canada. Coalition Clean Baltic along with some of its Members, including SSNC, ASC/CES, and Ecopartnerstvo is taking part in INC-4.

CMS grants the endangered Baltic Proper Harbour Porpoise the highest protection status following concerted action from NGOs

The common harbour porpoise is critically endangered in the central Baltic Sea and off the Iberian Peninsula, with only a few hundred individuals left. However, effective measures to enable the recovery of these special populations have so far been lacking. At the meeting of the UN Convention on Migratory Species (CMS COP14, 12-17 Feb 2024), the Baltic Proper harbour porpoise has now been included in Appendix I: This recognises this sub-population as critically endangered and emergency measures can be taken to save it.
