CCB • Jul 01, 2015

The Recycling kayaking is under the patronage of the Coalition Clean Baltic

Mr Dominik Dobrowolski, a famous Polish ecologist, has been canoeing and cleaning up rivers for many years now. His main objective is to protect rivers and the Baltic sea from pollution. His initiative is well-known and appreciated by many in Poland and numerous profit and non-profit organizations support Dominik in his projects. On July 2nd, Dominik starts another expedition called the “Recykling rejs” (Recycling kayaking). This time, he is going to canoe from Szczecin to Gdynia, along the Polish coast. During the expedition, Dominik along with Plastics Europe Polska, is going to organize a series of meetings in which he will popularize ideas of recycling and active protection of the environment.

We encourage you to follow this eco-expedition on www.recykling-rejs.pl. Dominik is inviting to organize similar actions in all coastal European countries and those with large rivers and lakes.

The common harbour porpoise is critically endangered in the central Baltic Sea and off the Iberian Peninsula, with only a few hundred individuals left. However, effective measures to enable the recovery of these special populations have so far been lacking. At the meeting of the UN Convention on Migratory Species (CMS COP14, 12-17 Feb 2024), the Baltic Proper harbour porpoise has now been included in Appendix I: This recognises this sub-population as critically endangered and emergency measures can be taken to save it.
