A workshop aimed at researchers, conservationists, policymakers, and fisheries experts seeking to address the problem of accidental capture of marine wildlife in Baltic Sea fishing operations.
With presentations from Jenny Renell (ASCOBANS), Dr. Julia Carlström (Swedish Museum of Natural History), Sven Koschinski (Meereszoologie), Katarzyna Kamińska (HELCOM), Dr. Dominik Marchowski (Polish Academy of Sciences), Russell Leaper, and Thomas Noack (Thuenen Institute of Baltic Sea Fisheries) about the current state of harbour porpoise and seabird bycatch in the Baltic, monitoring approaches including remote electronic monitoring, international mitigation strategies, smarter fishing gear solutions, and the development of emergency conservation measures — culminating in working group sessions to translate findings into concrete actions.
