Conference
Living Seas – 1st National German Ocean Conference 2025
May 6, 2025
Description
The first National German Ocean Conference took place in Berlin from May 6 to 7, 2025. All stakeholders of the "ocean community" met – from society, politics, environmental and business associations, companies, marine research, and federal and coastal state administrations – to discuss the future of the oceans.
Healthy oceans are vital to our planet, providing habitat for millions of living creatures, serving as a source of food and recreation, creating jobs, and stabilising the global climate. However, the oceans – including the North and Baltic Seas – are under severe pressure. Therefore, it is important to come together and make the protection and sustainable use of the oceans a social and political priority.
Projects and initiatives aimed at protecting and sustainably using the oceans were central themes, as well as Germany's contributions to the UN Ocean Conference (June 9-13, 2025, in Nice, France). This provided a particular opportunity to discuss concrete measures, implementation paths, and exemplary best practices.
For young people (18-25 age), the conference offered a valuable opportunity for networking and exchange, with a final panel discussion only dedicated to education and youth.
CCB's participants in the event
- Ole Lorenzen, CCB Youth Group representative
- Bettina Taylor, CCB Co-Chair / BUND - Friends of the Earth Germany
