What is ASCOBANS?
ASCOBANS was concluded in 1991 as the Agreement on the Conservation of Small Cetaceans of the Baltic and North Seas (ASCOBANS) under the auspices of the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS or Bonn Convention) and entered into force in 1994. To know more about it.
Description
The 29th Meeting of the ASCOBANS Advisory Committee (AC28) was held online from 16 to 18 September 2025.
For the meeting, Parties requested to report on pressures and threats to small cetaceans as per UNEP/ASCOBANS/Resolution 10.1 National Reporting:
- Noise (impulsive i.e. piling and continuous/ambient i.e. shipping)
- Ocean Energy
- Unexploded Ordnance
- Marine Spatial Planning
