BALTFISH Forum meeting 2025
The Baltic Sea Fisheries Forum (BALTFISH) is a regional body providing a platform for discussion on important fisheries issues in the Baltic Sea. BALTFISH is based on the regionalisation of the EU Common Fisheries Policy as referred to in the Basic Regulation and its main objective is to promote cooperation among fisheries administrations and other key stakeholders in developing sustainable fisheries in the Baltic Sea region.

Description

The BALTFISH Forum meeting was organised on September 8, 2025, in Stockholm and online. CCB took part in the meeting via BSAC.

Outcomes of the meeting
During the meeting the orkplan for the Swedish Baltifsh presidency was presented and discussed, CCB together with MO SSNC advocated for the importence of finalising the work on proposing a joint recommendation for measures to minimise harbour porpoise bycatch. The EU Commission presented their proposal for fishing quotas for 2026 and CCB and the other NGOs presented our recommendations for setting the fishing quotas for 2026. The fishing organisations and BSAC also presented their views on the matter. CCB joined in on a joint NGO statment on the importance of better protecting the eel and halting all fisheries on the species, that was partly read during the meeting and later submitted to Baltfish in its full length. The HELCOM Secretariat also presented their draft Common Understanding for Ecosystem-based Fisheries Management, to which CCB has contributed actively.
