The seminar is an initiative of the Dam Removal Europe movement and is implemented in cooperation with World Fish Migration Foundation, WWF Netherlands, The Nature Conservancy, WWF Living European Rivers, INRAe, Luke – Natural Resources Institute Finland, Open Rivers Fund, Agence de l’eau, Forest Peace Foundation. MedINA received a scholarship from Dam Removal Europe to participate in the training seminar, due to its eleven years of involvement and quality results in the Aoos River project.

Description

The Barrier removal training seminar was in France between 26 June and 01 July 2023. CCB participated in the DammedRemoval Trained Seminar organised by the Dam Removal Europe movement in Rennes, France.

"Outcomes of the meeting:"
- the seminar introduced participants from 16 countries to the philosophy of removing obsolete dams from Europe’s rivers and to disseminate the steps a country needed to take in order to implement dam removal nationally.
- Participants also learned about other countries’ good practices, how to address challenges (from social/political challenges to technical challenges), and the 12 experts from Europe and America shared their extensive experience with participants, experience drawn from the field.
- participants shared their experiences of dam removal cases in their countries, developed a roadmap for their country, and in cooperation with the organizers identified areas where future training is needed in order to develop more follow-up courses.
