Description

An informal consultation session of the HELCOM Expert Group on migratory
fish (IC FISH-M 1-2023), hosted by Poland, was held online on 24 February 2023.
The Session was attended by Delegations from Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, and Sweden as well as an Observer from Coalition Clean Baltic and an Invited Guest from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.

CCB participant in the session:
- Nils Höglund, CCB Fisheries Officer.

Outcomes of the session:
- The Session noted the point raised by Poland, and supported by CCB, on the importance of keeping the WG Fish on the same management/policy level as the other Working Groups, and not changing its status to Expert Group.

-The Session considered Action 4 of Annex 2 (BSAP S50) and noted a clear link between the action and HELCOM Recommendation 32-33/1 and the possible revision of the Recommendation. The Session noted that CCB is carrying out supportive work for this action and is aiming to establish a suggestion for a way forward in contact with experts and stakeholders. The Session invited CCB to submit supporting material to the implementation of the action to the autumn session of EG Fish-M.

- In relation to action 5 of Annex 2 (BSAP B16), the Session recalled the information presented during the 2017 HELCOM Workshop on eel that all Baltic Sea countries release/restock eel upstream of hydropower stations and noted that this is an activity that CCB strongly advises against.
