Official meetings of all HELCOM Working and Experts Groups and other subsidiary bodies are postponed due to the HELCOM strategic pause until further notice, however, informal consultation sessions, without Russian participation, are organized and hosted by a Contracting Party.
The informal consultation sessions process and discuss documents and provide guidance and recommendations as to how to progress work.

Description

The first informal consultation session of the HELCOM Expert Group on Marine Mammals (IC EG MAMA 1-2022) was convened on 13-15 September 2022 as a hybrid session with participants joining in person in Odense, Denmark, as well as via Zoom. The session was hosted by Denmark.

The Session was attended by delegations from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Poland and Sweden, observers from Nordic Hunters Alliance, Coalition Clean Baltic (CCB), WWF Finland, as well as invited guests from BioConsult SH GmbH & Co. KG and the HELCOM BLUES project

Outcomes of the session:
- The Session took note of the information from CCB on a document submitted to IC STATE & CONSERVATION 2-2022 on the alternative measures for the Baltic Proper harbour porpoise on the use of pingers. The document will aim to comment the implementation in the Delegated Act entered into force in February 2022 and to identify potential measures that be taken to further mitigate bycatch of the Baltic Proper harbour porpoise.
