What is HELCOM? The Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission – also known as the Helsinki Commission (HELCOM) – is an intergovernmental organization (IGO) and a regional sea convention in the Baltic Sea area. HELCOM was established about four decades ago to protect the marine environment of the Baltic Sea from all sources of pollution through intergovernmental cooperation. The HELCOM Secretariat is located in Helsinki, Finland. To know more about it.

Description

The intersessional meeting of the HELCOM Expert Group on Marine Mammals has been held online the 19th of November 2020.

This meeting focused on the following points:
- The availability of acoustic data for harbour porpoise,
- The conversion of such raw data into relevant products in the HELCOM database,
- The interpretation and uses of these data products,
- To scope the progress on reporting of acoustic monitoring data.
