What is HELCOM? The Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission – also known as the Helsinki Commission (HELCOM) – is an intergovernmental organization (IGO) and a regional sea convention in the Baltic Sea area. HELCOM was established about four decades ago to protect the marine environment of the Baltic Sea from all sources of pollution through intergovernmental cooperation. Description

The HELCOM-VASAB MSP WG 17-2018 started on Wednesday, 14 November 2018 at 14:00 in the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (Peldu iela 25, Riga) and ended on Thursday, 15 November at 16:00. The Meeting was chaired jointly by the Working Group Co-Chairs Mr. Joacim Johannesson, Sweden, and Ms. Katarzyna Krzywda, Poland.

The Meeting discussed evaluation of the progress in implementation of the regional MSP roadmap, coordination and follow-up of regional policy, facilitation of the ecosystem-based approach in MSP. Specifically the Meeting  focused on organization of the work to update BSAP, revision of the HELCOM Recommendation on coastal management, implementation of the timetable for future cooperation on Green Infrastructure/Blue Corridors in MSP and other tasks from the work plan of the group.
