Welcome to the Baltic Climate School 2026
The Baltic Climate School - Edition 2026:
The third edition of the Baltic Climate School will take place on the Lithuanian coast from 6 to 10 July, focusing on the unique landscape of the Curonian Spit National Park. The co-organiser of this edition is
Lithuanian Fund for Nature in collaboration with
Curonian Spit National Park.
Curonian Spit is a World Heritage site. On this site, climate change, coastal protection, and human activity intersect in visible and contrasting ways. The program will explore how dune systems, especially grey dunes, function as natural coastal defenses while supporting biodiversity, and how they are affected by erosion, invasive species such as Rosa rugosa, and increasing tourism pressure.
By comparing well-managed areas within the National Park and more vulnerable stretches of the mainland coast, the school will highlight how different management approaches shape coastal resilience.
Through field visits and discussions, participants will gain practical insight into the challenges and solutions for protecting Baltic coasts under climate change, while also learning how to communicate these issues effectively to wider audiences

THIRD EDITION OF THE BALTIC CLIMATE SCHOOL:
This year we will dive into the consequences of climate change on the Lithuanian coast and answer the following questions:
- What are the effects of climate change on the Baltic Sea and the Lithuanian coast?
- How do they influence the lives of the citizens from the Baltic Sea Region?
- What are the mitigation and adaptation measures?
- Which organizations and documents provide the steps for such measures?
- What can be done on a personal level?
Therefore, we offer an event that
united bloggers, journalists, and content creators around the issues important for the Baltic Sea. There were meetings with experts, visits to protected areas and reflective moments that inspired the creation of insightful, professional and up-to-date content about the Baltic Sea climate challenges and solutions.
During the 3 days of The Baltic Climate School, participants will:
- learn about the impact of climate change from the lead experts and investigate local examples;
- met the local community, have interviews, and hear the stories of grassroots initiatives;
- have an overview of possible solutions and understand the basic approaches to preserve the vulnerable ecosystems of the Polish coast;
- see in practice coastal protection measures undertaken in Lithuania;
- learn to convey relevant scientific information about climate change to a wide range of the public in an accessible and environmentally friendly way.
