Description
The HELCOM Hot Spots list, created in 1992 to identify major pollution sources affecting the Baltic Sea, originally included 162 sites. It contains point sources from municipal facilities, industrial plants, and agriculture. By March 2025, 127 of these sites had been cleaned up, leaving 35 still active — including 6 agricultural, 3 coastal, 17 industrial, and 9 municipal Hot Spots.
CCB Youth Group invite you to join the HotSpots webinar on 11 February at 15:00 CET or alternatively to join the CCB Our Common Baltic Alumnae meeting on 13 February at 15:00 CET where we will share the idea and collect feedback.
What will Youth Group participants gain?
- A general overview of HELCOM's work on HotSpots,
- Specific criteria for identifying HotSpots, framework for creating a HotSpot review,
- Examples of HotSpots in different areas and countries (with successful problem solving),
- A discussion within the youth group about what prospects they see for themselves in this work and how they want to organise it.
