Protect Baltic

2023-2028

The Protect Baltic project aims to secure biodiversity, maintain ecosystem function, produce ecosystems services, and enable sustainable use.

OVERVIEW OF THE PROJECT

PROTECT BALTIC is dedicated to achieving biodiversity goals in the Baltic Sea region. The project aligns with key strategies outlined in HELCOM's Baltic Sea Action Plan, the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, and the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity targets. PROTECT BALTIC develops a methodology to identify, map, quantify and value ecosystem services.

The project collaborates across disciplines, considering species, habitats, and human activities, to support marine conservation and optimize the marine protected area (MPA) network. As real substantiated change takes time, the project represents a long-term commitment to establishing scalable and replicable models that extend beyond 2028.
