What is the BSAC? The Baltic Sea Advisory Council (BSAC) was set up in March 2006 after a decision by the EU to create so-called Regional Advisory Councils in the fisheries sector (Council Decision 2004/585/EC). The main aim of the BSAC is to prepare and provide advice on the management of Baltic Sea fisheries in order to achieve a successful running of the EU’s Common Fisheries Policy. Description

The workshop featured 23 speakers that presented on the policies and management in place, the research ongoing on the populations of seals and cormorants and the interactions with ecosystems and fisheries.

It answered in particular to the following questions :
- What are the legal rules and management measures related to seals and cormorants?
- What is the status and how are the populations of seals and cormorants monitored?
- How do seals and cormorants interact with fish stocks and fisheries?

- presentation on the environmental NGOs’ perspective by Ms. Justyna Zajchowska, WWF, PL and Mr. Nils Höglund, Coalition Clean Baltic [Presentation not public, the tool which WWF is using to analyse grey seals-fishers conflict in the Polish East coast and which were presented at the workshop can be found at page 46 of the WWF report: “The need for human-wildlife coexistence”.
