Description

The European Commission had held a virtual “Round table” discussion with Commissioner Sinkevičius concerning the protection of the resident population of harbour porpoise in the Baltic Sea and the short-beaked common dolphin in the bay of Biscay on Friday 26th June 2020.

This round-table meeting was an opportunity for the Commissioner and others concerned to hear the views of the scientists, the environmental non-governmental organisations who are a channel for public concern and the fishing industry sectors who are fishing in areas where dolphins or harbour porpoises are present. A member of the European Parliament also attended, as did representatives of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Maritime Affaires and Fisheries and of the Directorate-General for Environmental Policy.

Online participants had the opportunity to see and hear the entire meeting. It was also possible for participants to submit questions during the event. There was also the possibility to submit additional questions through the chat. Time permitting, and on the first-come-first-serve basis, these were answered by the panellists, or in the chat.

While we strived for the widest possible participation, a limited number of online participants was set for technical reasons. Registered participants received technical details for joining the meeting prior to the event.

In case of questions, please contact the workshop organisers on MARE-D3-CFP@ec.europa.eu.

Nils Höglund, CCB Fisheries Policy Officer, was one of the speakers. To watch the recording of the EU Round Table meeting click here.
