16. "The regional
park of the bends of Nemunas" preserves the unique landscape
of bends of Nemunas and the ecosystem of the boscage of "Punia".

32. Regional park 'The
Delta of Nemunas” is created
with the purpose of preservation and stability of the ecosystem
of the area with a unique landscape. There are plenty of nests of
migrating bird species. It is an area the spawning and rest of migratory
fish species takes place.

34. The ichthyologycal
nature reserve of Dubysa” with
spawning places of the vimba preserved.

35. “The ichthyologycal
nature reserve of the Sea”. The
spawning places of salmon, sea trout, salmon trout and vimba preserved.

36. “The ichthyologycal
nature reserve of Minija” preserved.
The spawning places of salmon, sea trout, salmon trout and vimba
preserved.

37. “The
ichthyologycal nature reserve of Veivirzas” The
spawning places of salmon, sea trout, salmon trout and vimba preserved.

17, 19, 20, 23, 33 the
full waste water purification systems with additional segregation
of nitrogen and phosphorus are installed in the towns of Vilnius, Alytus, Marijampole, Ukmerge and Silute.

21. “The
hydro power plant (HPP) of Kaunas.
The dam of the Kaunas HPP has been
constructed without wish ladders and has completely blocked the
ways for migrating fish species. The sharp daily variation of the
water level of the basin ruins the costal zone and coastal biocommunities.
In the bottom of the downstreem pool the multikilometer potholes
has been washed out.

14, 15, 18, 22 The
water purification systems of the towns of Salcininkai, Druskininkai, Svencioneliai and Kaunas have only the mechanical stage of purification.
Biological cleaning is absent. The untreated waste waters are drained
directly to the rivers in the amounts mentioned accordingly: 0,2
million m3, 1,2 million m3, 0,1 million m3 21,4 million m3.

30 - The town of Pagegiai does not have any waste
water purification system installed. 31,000 m3 of untreated waste
water are drained directly to Nemunas annually.

31. Delta of Neman river
Type: protected area
Status: state protected zoological reservation (80 square km)
Description: regional zoological reservation “Dunniy”
based on forest massive “Dalniy” (30 sq. km). Marshy
and dewy alder-tree forests occupy this area; highlands, elder dunes
and hills are covered with firry, piny and mixed forests. Between
forest and Neman river lies Kozie marsh (14 sq. km) that includes
plot of turf wetland (9 sq. km). Marshes along eastern coast of
Curonian spit occupy about 26 sq. km.
This area is famous for high concentration of rare and protected
bird species included in the Red Book of Russian Federation and
Red Book of Baltic region. Also big number of rare and endangered
forest and marsh plants can be found here. Area is extremely important
as gathering spot of migrating birds, nesting and wintering of golden
eagle, erne and included in the list of key ornithological areas
of Russian Federation.

26. Neman pulp and paper
mill sewer discharge
Sewer waters of pulp and paper mills
fit in the category of high polluted and are being discharged into
Neman river without proper biological treatment.
Amount of discharge per year 14.3 millions of cubic meters.

27. Municipal sewer system
discharge
Discharge of sewer waters into Neman
river is being made without any treatment. It pollutes river with
0.7 million of cubic meters of sewer waters per year. There's no
any kind of waste disposal plant.

28. Sovietsk pulp and
paper mill sewer discharge
Full treatment cycle is missing, so
sewer waters with annual amount of 15 millions of cubic meters are
being discharged into Neman river untreated. These waters contain
such pollutants as lignine, furanes, halogen-organics, methanol.

29. Municipal sewer system
discharge
Inadequately treated sewer waters are
being discharged into Neman river after just mechanical disposal
in amount of 2.7 millions of cubic meters. There is no biological
treatment, mechanical disposal plants are overloaded on 58%. Town
administration is not active in changing the situation to better.
