SPECIALIST SEMINAR: "DEALING WITH ENVIRONMENTAL RISKS AND CATASTROPHES IN COASTAL AREAS IN THE BALTIC REGION"
Coastal and inland areas in the Baltic region are periodically affected by environmental accidents and catastrophes which happen due to both, natural and man-made events. In January 2005 for example, severe storms led to floods in Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, also affecting parts of Germany. It is seen that the exchange of information and experiences may be useful in dealing with current environmental risks and in dealing with future catastrophes. In this context, this seminar, organised as part of the Interreg IIB project Coastman (Coastal Zone Management in the Baltic Sea Region) http://www.coastalmanagement.net/en/ will provide an opportunity to look at ways Baltic countries may deal with current and future problems.
The specialist Seminar "Dealing with Environmental Risks and Catastrophes in Coastal Areas in the Baltic Region" will be held in Hamburg, Germany on Wednesday the 22nd June 2005. It will be open by Hamburg's Senator for City Development and Environment, Dr. Michael Freytag, and will be of special interest to professionals working in the field of coastal zone management, emergency services and planners concerned with coastal developments in the whole Baltic region. The programme and further logistical information can be seen at:
