Lithuanian Fund for Nature

Pranas Mierauskas,

Executive director

In 2004 Lithuanian Fund for Nature (LGF) has several projects supported by CCB. The last project was  Indicators for Sustainable Development in Western Lithuania” (in partnership with the Zvejone Environmental Club, 2002). But LGF has ongoing projects which are related to CCB policy and aims.

Lithuanian Fund for Nature is carrying out  a few projects related to protection of Curonian lagoon and Baltic Sea. First of all I would like to mention Baltic Sea Regional Project (GEF, Helcom, Swedish Agriculture University, WWF). LGF is implementing ICZ activities on the Curonian lagoon coast. LGF is building cooperation and partnership with Kaliningrad region (Russian Federation) environmental organizations (project on Promotion of Sustainable development of Curonian lagoon, WWF-SEPA, 2003-2004). In April both Lithuanian and Kaliningrad sides are going to have a meeting in Nida and discuss the establishment of the Curonian Lagoon Water Forum. The Forum could facilitate discussion and cooperation on protection of Curonian lagoon.

In 2004 LGF started to publish quarterly newsletter “Nature conservation actualities”.

Lithuanian Fund for Nature has plans to extend activities on ICZM, river basins protection, SEA and environmental policy.
